The café looks beautiful and gives the impression of being high-end, with cakes that are well-presented and a window display that’s genuinely inviting. Sadly, looks were the only highlight.
I paid $40 for two poached eggs with bacon, and it was incredibly disappointing. The eggs were overcooked, the bread was stale and clearly frozen, and the bacon had a strange taste. Serving rock-hard frozen bread in a place that looks this polished is unacceptable—especially when fresh bread is easy to source from any nearby supermarket. To make it worse, the toast was served without butter.
For a venue charging premium prices, fresh, quality ingredients should be a given. Instead, what I got felt cheap and careless. The only saving grace was the desserts, which were decent, but overall the food fell far below the standard the setting promises.

A great Bayswater lunch and breakfast cafe. Book ahead though as it is popular with locals.
The prices are reasonable and the food is great.
Lots of great desserts too.

Montano’s does serve very good coffee and the cakes look amazing. While it is a very convenient place to get a takeaway coffee after a long cycle, the counter staff do not seem to have a very friendly demeanor. Could do with a few more smiles. Maybe it’s because. I am not a (bigger spender) dine in customer, but as a repeat takeaway coffee customer I notice it often. The potential is great, just need to treat takeaway customers a bit better.

I had the big brekkie, which hit the spot nicely. I also tried the turkish delight hot chocolate which was lovely. Food came pretty quickly despite being very busy.
