Had lunch with friends at The Boot Factory on a Monday. Two of us parked in the undercover parking at Pentridge and one utilised street parking.
Service was friendly and relatively quick. We all enjoyed a coffee before our meals arrived.
We ordered:
- Pan Fried Gnocchi
- Scrambled Eggs on sourdough
- Poached Eggs on sourdough with a Cauliflower & Caramelised Onion Potato Hash on the side
All meals were delicious and I believe we left nothing on our plates! The only negative was that the sourdough toast was very tough to cut... we felt like we needed a steak knife to get through the toast!
We all agreed we would be happy to visit The Boot Factory again for our next catch up.

I’ll start by saying the presentation of the food is genuinely impressive; everything looks fantastic.
Tropical Smoothie
Visually appealing, but not worth the price. The passion fruit dominates, making it overly tart and unbalanced.
Ricotta Hotcakes
Light and fluffy, with mascarpone cream that was genuinely delightful. I added a side of ice cream based on the server’s recommendation, but it wasn’t necessary—the hotcakes weren’t dry. The stewed apple added a subtle, pleasant touch. The dehydrated apple was fine, but didn’t stand out.
Huevos Rancheros
This dish completely misses the mark. No salsa, no spice, and nachos instead of tortillas—what’s left tastes like watered-down bean juice. The eggs were undercooked, and I wouldn’t order it again.
Chili Scramble
Overwhelmingly oily. The chili overpowers everything, leaving the eggs soggy. The apple added crunch but lacked flavor. Overall, it felt heavy and unsatisfying.
Atmosphere
The vibe here is lovely; warm, welcoming, and very family-friendly. Its central location makes it a convenient spot, especially for parents with kids. That accessibility is its strongest asset.
Overall I would say the prices are too high for what the food is worth and an 11% surcharge for the weekend seems a bit excessive. I will come back to try the goods in the cabinets but otherwise I think I will try somewhere else.

We came here on a whim and were very pleasantly surprised. Despite being there on a busy weekend lunchtime, service was friendly and prompt and the food didn’t take long to arrive. The decor and vibe was quirky and inviting, and fit very well into the Pentridge complex atmosphere.
The menu was very vegetarian friendly with almost every dish being adaptable and the food we ordered was full of flavour and delicious. Juice and spiced cinnamon coffee were also lovely. We’ll definitely return.

It is one of those cafes that just makes a lovely Sunday brunch. I am so glad that kept remnants of the past to remind us of a different time such as the painting.
I think i did see some hanging bird houses which were so cute.
We were greeted by a lovely lady who seated us. Even though they were super busy, they managed to give us a warm welcome. The food did take a while to arrive but I would say it was worth the wait. I was stuffed by the end of my meal and I enjoyed scooping up the biscoff bits from my latte!
I came with a pleasant experience that left me wanting to visit again.

I have been coming here for several years.. This is not an average cafe. It is the kind of place you go when you want to relax in a warm and friendly space that has excellent food, coffee, other speciality drink options and quick and efficient service. You will need to get your own filtered table water from the dispenser on.the bar. it is a good idea to do this before you settle in. Today we arrived for a late brunch at 2.15. The kitchen was still open.
