Akachochin served contemporary Japanese cuisine. Iโ€™d dined here a few times and thought they were pretty good, but my last visit was very disappointing. I went there for a 5-course Christmas lunch and it took them half an hour to bring out each dish despite them knowing in advance the number of diners and the menu. Overall, service was very poor, ambiance would have been better if they had not fit too many tables in the area, food was delicious and elegantly presented.

Such a versatile dining place in a perfect location, between the DFO South Wharf and the exhibition centre. Suitable for family with kids as well as for an individual visit. The dining area is not that huge, but has both indoors and outdoors seating facing the river (heated during the winter). It has a great service includes friendly staffs. About the food, it was delicious. I ordered lunch set menu, pork belly set and pork katsu which all were delicious snd came out in a perfect portion. The serving speed was quick and the price was decent. Glad to have this option at the area.

Good food, service and ambiance. The whole barramundi was very light, and the papaya salad was quite refreshing. I can't remember the name of the mocktail (watermelon and lime), but it was quite disappointing. The menu made it sound like there would be fresh watermelon in it, but you can taste the syrup. Only item that we didn't enjoy.

Slightly above average food but ridiculously small portion for the price you're paying. If you enjoy having an imbalance ratio of price and quantity you will enjoy this place. Ordered 2 main course with a side dish for 2 pax and it wasn't even enough. We had to visit somewhere else to fill our stomachs. Not worth it.

This is the best Japanese restaurant in Melbourne without breaking your bank! Cooked in traditional methods and presented in a modern way, the chefs & service staff love their work, care about customers & take the time to explain real Japanese food. If you think miso soup is a vegetarian dish, you don't know miso soup! They make the broth from scratch with bonito, it's the best I've ever had here! Awesome sake & cocktails, you must try Dassai Junmai Daiginjo & yuzushu. Unagi cucumber roll and chicken wing gyoza are delicious. I love chawanmushi & they took it to the next level, big bowl of freshly steamed deliciousness. If you want a simple meal, go for udon or unagi on rice, otherwise lunch set is great value for money! Lastly, can you imagine sweet potato creek brรปlรฉe? Go eat Akachochin :)
