Food was very high quality and came really quick. Prawn was huge and very fresh. Crab was fat, lots of meat. We had shellfish stirfry, which had 3 prawns, 3 crabs and lots of mussels. There were only 2 of us. I would recommend to have the dish in 2 sizes, so we could try something more.

I was sadly disappointed. According to the photos and reviews it seemed like an awesome place to eat at NYE. But it wasn't. First I was scared we won't get a table, but there was plenty of space. We arrived and someone told us where to sit. For around 15 min nobody came to our table, neither did we receive a menu. I went towards the kitchen and asked for the menu, and they said, yeah yeah service will come, but didn't. Then we ordered the big fish platter at the kitchen directly from the cook. I asked if we can order drinks and she said the waitress will come. First time she actually came was like 20 min after we set down. And she was not welcoming or friendly at all. Seemed like pissed that she is at work. The platter came, unfortunately, for 2 people not enough, left hungry. The side was a mini portion of rice under the seafood, not even enough for 1 person. The food itself was good, well cooked, but for that price we really expected more. Not worth it unfortunately.

IMPORTANT TO READ : Unfortunately, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences we have ever had. We were a group of eight celebrating two birthdays. We ordered at 6:45 pm, and service was extremely slow from the start. By 8:20 pm, almost two hours later, two king fish dishes still had not arrived. Only because we went to ask ourselves did we find out the kitchen had run out of king fish and was never preparing those dishes at all. No one informed us, we could have waited forever. Instead of apologizing, the waitress, Sanguita, was very rude and blamed us, saying the issue was because we were speaking “our own language.” She took no responsibility and showed no respect. To make things worse, when we asked for plates and spoons for our cake, we were given a dirty spoon. This was an awful, humiliating, and deeply disrespectful experience, especially on what was supposed to be a celebratory evening. The lack of communication, accountability, and basic respect from the staff is unacceptable. If you are thinking of eating here, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

A late sitting meant we missed out on a few popular options (apparently it was a big jazz night), but we went with the sambal stingray and crispy John Dory. First time trying stingray — nicely cooked and delicious. Keen to come back for the creole gumbo and grilled octopus leg. The staff were friendly and super accommodating with what was left on the menu.

Rumours of Claypots death has been grossly exaggerated. This is still a Melbourne institution. For good reason - loved the barramundi with soy and sesame; and our calamari was huge! The garlic prawns were also big and juicy. You can't deny the freshness and the simplicity of the spices used here. Was it a little pricey? Perhaps. But what hasn't gone up in price these days with inflation. This remains good value for me and loved a solid place to come back to for great seafood.
