Found the best blueberry scone with lemon curd in Melbourne?! 🫐🍋
If you're hunting for Melbourne’s cutest French-inspired cafés, this spot needs to be on your list. Their pastries and sandwiches are seriously worth the trip (drinks were just alright lol), but the chicken baguette was one of the best we’ve had, and the tuna melt was delicious too!
The whole space feels like a little Parisian corner shop, with their sister café “petitebymatilda” just across the lawn for takeaways!

How wonderful to see what has been accomplished and developed in the Mont Albert neighbourhood. The community has really embraced the work that the owners of Matilda cafe has created and with high quality services and food and yes coffee, a lovely experience awaits most visitors! Here families gather to meet after school or swimming lessons and enjoy their time off. The cafe is at heart of the square and delivers delicious foods. It’s very local but truly well worth visiting even though you are not a local!
Enjoy 🥂

Clearly, it’s a local’s favorite cafe. This is probably only busy cafe in the neighborhood. Service is fantastic, friendly with smile. Coffee is good.
The only nitpick is the food as our dishes both Croque Madame and Ham Toastie are slightly burnt. (See attached photos)
Otherwise, the perfect place to sit down and chill for sure. Still recommended for locals and nearby residents. 👍

Matilda is a charming, Parisian-inspired cafe nestled in Mont Albert North, Melbourne. Housed in a former milk bar, it has a cozy atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating, making it a popular spot for visitors. Love its fresh, homely menu (they have a variety of vegan and gluten-free options). One of the highly recommended items is the Matilda toastie . Their freshly baked pastries are irresistible. The staffs are friendly and the welcoming ambiance. Matilda is definitely a perfect place for a relaxing brunch or coffee catch-up, a beloved neighborhood cafe!

This café had been on my list for the longest time, so I was glad to finally visit.
Matilda is a neighborhood favorite, known for its pastries, sandwiches, and a few breakfast options.
We ordered:
▪️ Croque Madame – Thick-cut brioche, free-range ham, Gruyère béchamel, fried egg, and truffle oil ($26)
▪️Tuna Melt – Tuna, jalapeños, red onion, herbs, Swiss cheese, house mayo, and rocket on sourdough ($18) The tuna melt was generously filled, flavorful, and well-balanced.
We also tried some desserts, a cookie ($6.50) and a croissant bake ($8), which was soft, moist, with chocolate chips scattered. Not my usual go-to dessert, but I’m glad I gave it a try.
Service was friendly and accommodating, and they also have a takeaway shop next door if you're after a quick pick-me-up. A cosy spot for a solo café date or a casual catch-up. We visited during a very rainy day, but they have a nice little patch of grass and outside dining area which is perfect for a coffee and pastry outdoor yap sesh ☺️
