We chose this cafe in Port Melbourne as Google gave it a comparable highest rating in the area. It’s half located within a Woolies car park. Undeterred, we confidently entered. Now, I love a very simple, homemade Caesar salad. I ordered it and declined chicken when our server asked but of course said yes to anchovies as it wouldn’t be a Caesar salad without it. My friend ordered the dumplings. The wait for our food was noticeably long at at least 30 minutes. When our food finally arrived, I was very disappointed. I’ve made Caesar salad dressing from scratch at home, this wasn’t even close. My salad was almost entirely comprised of lettuce, half of which was the hearts, roughly chopped and not even separated. There were 4 or 5 whole anchovies, a tiny bit of bacon, a very small amount of Parmesan, zero bread croutons and a dressing that I’m 100% sure was “salad cream” or from a supermarket bottle like Kraft. It tasted very sweet and vinegary. Oh, and one tiny poached egg. Also disappointing that they charged $24 for this. The service was bored and perfunctory. I dunno, I don’t consider myself entitled but for the money, I left the place with a half plate of just lettuce and still starving.
