I can’t recommend Aviv Cakes and Bagels enough! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with the warmest hospitality. The shop has a cozy and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Their bagels are absolutely top-notch—perfectly soft on the inside with just the right amount of chewiness on the outside. I tried the smoked salmon bagel, and it was pure perfection! The cream cheese was fresh, the toppings were generous, and the bagel itself was cooked to absolute perfection. But it’s not just the bagels that stand out. The selection of cakes and pastries is mouth-watering. I picked up a slice of their carrot cake, and it was hands-down one of the best I’ve ever had. Moist, flavorful, and topped with the creamiest icing. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or looking for something special for an occasion, Aviv Cakes and Bagels is definitely worth a visit. I’ll be back for sure!

Herbert has dedicated most of his life in being a baker and I see it in the cakes and everything else he makes. I met him briefly through a friend who used to live in Melbourne. I go there every time I miss my mums or my aunt’s cakes. They are always the best. The cheesecake, although not traditional polish but light and fluffy is one of my favourites. I hope he continues on for a while and I do worry about him handing over to the next generation but if he is as fussy about his legacy as he is with his cakes I’m sure he’ll find a good apprentice to take over. Anyway, to the cakes. I used to always get a fruit flan but I over indulged and need a break now. I always get a cheesecake, crustoli, poppyseed cake and bagels as my staples. Almost forgot the cherry danish. The chocolate babka is my son’s fav. It’s all great and you should try a bit of everything. Highly recommended, a must go if you love European cakes.

This is my favourite bakery in Melbourne. Everything is so fresh and delicious. I especially like their Beestings and Apple Danish’s. Definitely worth a visit!! 🙌❤️👍🫡

We’ve loved Aviv Cakes for years, and their William Pear Chocolate Cake was even our wedding cake in 2024, so it holds a very special place for us. For our first wedding anniversary, we ordered the same cake in a smaller size, hoping to continue that tradition. We paid extra to have the same style of decoration and were assured it could be replicated. Unfortunately, the cake we received looked quite bare compared to the original, with very minimal chocolate detailing. More disappointing was that we paid extra for chocolate-coated strawberries but received only plain sliced strawberries. When we raised this, we were told chocolate couldn’t be added at the time, despite having charged us for it. The baker said “but then I have to melt chocolate for this now!” We paid and left without saying another word. The cake tasted good, as always, but paying for specific details and not receiving them — especially on such a sentimental order — was deeply disappointing. Sadly, this experience has made us rethink returning.
