I went to The Hill in Berwick expecting dinner and left with something closer to reassurance. This is a restaurant and bar that understands its role in the universe: feed people well, make them comfortable, and don’t create unnecessary tension. It’s family-friendly without feeling like a playground, which is harder than it sounds.
The seafood risotto was good; balanced, comforting, properly cooked, and the wagyu rump was very nice, the kind of steak that behaves itself and doesn’t ask existential questions. Portions are decent, generous enough to satisfy but not so large that you feel judged by the plate. The chips are workable, which in my experience is the polite way of saying you’ll happily eat them all without complaint.
The cocktails were nice, the mocktails equally thoughtful, which I appreciate because sometimes you want flavour without regret. The real standout, though, is the service, exceptional, welcoming, friendly in a way that feels genuine rather than rehearsed. People smile, they mean it, and they seem pleased you’re there.
The Hill is the kind of place that doesn’t try to impress you but ends up doing so anyway. You arrive hungry, slightly uncertain, and leave fed, relaxed, and wondering why more places can’t simply get it this right.

My partner and I celebrated our anniversary at The Hill, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere struck the perfect balance between cosy and modern, the kind of place where you instantly feel relaxed but know you’re in for something special.
We started the night with a platter of oysters, half Kilpatrick and half natural. The natural oysters were fresh, briny, and perfectly chilled, while the Kilpatrick oysters had a beautiful balance of smoky bacon and tangy Worcestershire sauce that added just the right amount of richness without overpowering the seafood. It was the perfect way to open the meal and set the tone for what followed.
We then shared the Carnivores Platter, and it was an absolute feast. The presentation alone was stunning, a generous spread of perfectly flame-grilled meats, each cooked to tender perfection. The pork ribs were beautifully glazed with a smoky sweet BBQ sauce, the crispy pork belly had that perfect crunch, and the wagyu rump melted in the mouth. The Portuguese chicken skewer added a nice hit of spice and char, tying it all together.
On the side, we had the broccolini with lemon and almonds and the double cooked herb potatoes, both spot on. The greens were crisp and bright with just the right amount of char, and the potatoes were buttery, fluffy, and covered in a generous snowfall of parmesan. The platter came with flatbread and a trio of sauces that complemented everything perfectly, fresh, smoky, and creamy all at once.
For dessert, we couldn’t resist trying two classics, the Tiramisu and the Vanilla Crème Brûlée. Both were excellent. The tiramisu was light, creamy, and balanced, not overly sweet, and topped with fresh strawberries for a refreshing touch. The crème brûlée had that satisfying crack on top, revealing a smooth custardy centre that paired beautifully with the dusting of sugar and strawberries.
Every dish felt thoughtful and well-executed, the kind of food that shows off both quality ingredients and a kitchen that genuinely cares. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and the overall experience made for a perfect anniversary dinner. They truly deserved the well-earned tip at the end, Thank you Jess for being such an amazing waitress!
Highly recommend The Hill for anyone looking for a place that combines hearty, flavour-packed food with an elegant yet welcoming atmosphere. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit.

I wish I could give 10 stars !! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We had the absolute best experience celebrating a birthday in their private function room! From the moment we arrived, Alisha accommodated us and went above and beyond to make the birthday so special. We were allowed to come early and set up and the staff even helped us arrange the room. A massive thankyou to the Manager and the whole team, my dad said this was the best birthday he’s ever had!
Especially our server for the night who looked after us. She was super friendly and made everyone feel really comfortable. Honestly made the whole event run so smoothly, we couldn’t have asked for better service. (So sorry I had forgotten the name, the brunette girl with glasses. Natasha or Natalie maybe)
Our group selected the Premium package 4 course meal for dinner and WOW! The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. Every dish we tried was amazing & they even added thoughtful touches for the birthday celebration, which made the night feel extra memorable. ( I’ll add photos once I get sent them from my family)
It’s rare to find such an amazing combination of fantastic food and such genuinely kind service. Thank you so much to the entire Hills Resturant team for making our celebration unforgettable ❤️ we’ll definitely be back and will be recommending this place to everyone we know 😊
