The lunchtime teppanyaki menu is terrific value. Great service and delicious food.
Worth noting that the lunch menu pricing is significantly cheaper than the dinner menu pricing, and the wine list presented to you on the day is slightly different to the one posted online.
Highly recommended and we will definitely come back one day.

Came here for my partnerβs birthday dinner. He got the sakura meal for about $80 and I got the vegetarian set for about $60.
Overall, there were some hits and misses, both in the dishes and the service. Itβs pretty pricey for the amount of food, though Iβm aware youβre paying for the entertainment. I was also disappointed by the pacing - I received my main when everyone else was on their starters, and rice was served at the very end which would have been nice to have with the meal. Some items were a bit over cooked which is to be expected with this style of cooking, but everything had nice flavour - especially the butterfish and the nasu dengaku.
We also tried a blue margarita and a lychee fizz, which were both a bit sweet but not bad. There are also a handful of nice Japanese beers.

REVIEW:
Teppenyaki is hard to judge. You know you're not going to get the best produce because it's primarily about entertainment. In saying that, though, my favourites from Miyako were:
1. The creamy buttery scallops seared right in front of us!
2. Crispy fried king prawn heads
3. Juicy lamb
4. Fried rice with little crispy bits from being left on the grill for a bit (which he was telling us was his signature move).
Take is Miyako's most popular Teppanyaki menu. It doesn't make sense to spend an extra $27 for the Wagyu porterhouse fillet when it won't be cooked to perfection. When I reached the angus eye fillet portion for this Take menu, I was too full to fully enjoy it anyway. π
Sashimi also wasn't fresh, so don't expect extremely delicious stuff.
It was quiet on a Friday night. We were the only 6 diners in the Teppanyaki section for our time slot. Nonetheless, we had brief interaction from the chef at the start with the large fire wall, then again when we played 2 games. Catching the egg in our mouths and the guys catching their rice bowl. Expertly thrown by our chef!
I prefer the teppanyaki at Mount Alexander a few years back. I found that the chef there had more interaction and was more playful compared to my experience at Miyako the other night.
I felt bad that the chef had to reach over the hot area to put food into our plates. The teppanyaki in Chinatown had a plate in the middle, one for the chef to put hot dishes into and for us to reach and put into our own plates. This seems the safest method - we found ourselves holding out plates up to make it easier for the chef.

Can't review on their normal menu. BUT for their New Year Eve set course $183 per person, it is very disappointing. NOT WORTH the $183 per person price tag at all. Looks good but taste isn't surprising or up to a $183 standard.

I enjoyed my first tepanyaki in Melbourne. The service is lovely and I am amazed how a simple dish turned into a extravagant meal. I liked watching how the chef cooked the food with a bit of show especially lighting up the steak with to create a hot flaming fire. I also loved the sticky rice dessert.
