Kiki’s Tavern South Yarra: Breakfast, Seafood & Charcoal

Explore Kiki’s Tavern in South Yarra: breakfast, seafood, pasta and charcoal cooking, with menu prices, booking details and tips for your Domain Road visit.

The interesting thing about Kiki’s is how much ground its menus cover. You can start with an oat bowl, come back for sashimi, then build dinner around pasta or a steak. At 159 Domain Road, this new arrival gives the former Matilda address a very different daily rhythm.

This is a researched opening guide, based on Kiki’s published menus and official information checked on 26 September 2026. FoodScout has not visited or rated the cooking. The cover is an original FoodScout editorial illustration.

A new chapter for the old Matilda address

In its September opening report, Broadsheet identified Only Hospitality’s Julien Moussi as the owner behind the change from Matilda. It described an ambition to connect early coffee and breakfast with a later European-style grill, beneath the United Places hotel.

There is a personal story behind the name, too: according to that report, Kiki is a family nickname for Moussi’s mother. The concept is not presented as a Melbourne branch of the famous Mykonos tavern.

That history is useful when searching for reviews. Older Matilda ratings and photographs can still appear under this address online; they describe a previous restaurant. We have kept Kiki’s listing separate from that review history.

Breakfast: bowls, pancakes and something unexpected

The breakfast menu runs from 7am to 11:30am. There is a straightforward entry point in Eggs Your Way ($15), with several more substantial directions to explore.

On the breakfast menuListed price
Apple Pie Oat Bowl$20
Protein Berry Bowl$21
Breakfast Roll$23
Honeycomb Buttermilk Pancakes$26
Taramasalata Toast$26
Chicken Padakjeon$27
Mediterranean Chicken Bowl$28

The padakjeon is the less familiar choice: a chicken pancake with vegetables, sesame and poached eggs. Taramasalata toast takes breakfast towards the sea with fish roe, anchovies and eggs. If your first decision is sweet or savoury, those two sit well away from the pancake end of the menu.

Coffee comes from Inglewood Coffee Roasters. One timing detail to catch: the egg-white omelette is available only until 10:30am on weekends and public holidays.

From raw seafood to the charcoal grill

The dining menu moves between Japanese and European references. Think sashimi and maki alongside crudo, pasta and grilled meat, rather than a single-cuisine brief.

For a first look, these are useful signposts:

On the dining menuListed price
Sicilian Style Crudo$35
Oyster Mushroom King Roll, eight pieces$26
Kiki’s Cacio e Pepe$38
Baked Vodka Rigatoni$38
Chargrilled Snapper$50
300g O’Connor Koji Aged Sirloin$65
Chilled seafood selection, listed for 2–4$159
Southern Rock Lobster Mafaldine$170

The spread of prices matters. Pasta makes one kind of evening; lobster and a seafood selection make another. Decide your budget before turning the meal into a procession of shared plates.

These are menu choices to investigate, not dishes FoodScout has tasted or ranked.

Drinks, with room for a shorter visit

The drinks list gives a standalone drink its own possibilities. Kiki’s Spritz is $21; Garden Thief, built around shochu, shiso and yuzu, is $24. The non-alcoholic section includes a $18 Passionfruit Non-Alc Spritz, alcohol-free beers and a non-alcoholic riesling.

The breakfast and evening lists are separate documents, so check the menu being served when you arrive rather than assuming every drink has one all-day price.

What to budget—and check before you book

Kiki’s published menus list a 15% weekend surcharge and 20% public-holiday surcharge. As a simple food-only example, a $38 pasta becomes $43.70 with the weekend surcharge or $45.60 with the public-holiday surcharge. Drinks, extras and any other applicable charges are additional.

Menu markings identify vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices or options. Discuss your requirements directly with the team, especially where an allergy or cross-contact matters. We have not independently verified kitchen procedures.

For a group occasion, use the official function enquiry page. Room capacities, package prices and minimum spends were not published in the information reviewed, so request those before committing.

A date for the diary: 1 October

Kiki’s Free Coffee Day page advertises coffee for people who sign up, from 7am to midday on Thursday 1 October 2026, for International Coffee Day. Check that page for the current offer and sign-up details before making a special trip.

Before you head to Domain Road

Choose the version of Kiki’s you want to try: an early breakfast, a seafood-led meal, or pasta and a drink. Then check the latest menu and reserve directly. The breadth is clear on paper; how the kitchen brings it together is the question a visit will answer.
