Food was absolutely delicious and very filling, neither my partner nor I could finish our meals. They were also great with allergies; as a coeliac, I really appreciated that they had plenty of gluten free options and asked all the right questions.
The downside is that the restaurant feels quite cramped and very busy, which made the service feel rushed. Our drinks were dropped on the table as staff rushed past, and we weren’t given glasses or straws. We also ordered an entree and specifically checked after about 10 minutes that it would come out first. Unfortunately, it arrived at the same time as our mains, which meant we had a lot of food all at once, a bit frustrating.
That said, the food itself was excellent and we would still come back for that reason.

Beef casserole in tomato source and sliced premium lamb shoulder are tender and mouth watering. Both meat dishes offered solid portion. Flat bread is yummy too. We both are enjoyed this meal.

Delicious real greek gem in the middle of the city! I loved their cheese appetizer and meat plater, and portions are huge. However, the place is extremely popular and it gets so busy that to accommodate loads of clients, tables are all squished up, it’s very hard to get the staff attention, and forget chatting within your table. I’d recommend it for big groups in a relaxed hang out rather than for romantic dining, although the restaurant itself is quite pretty.

An institution in Melbourne and never fails to deliver! I had the mixed gyros coupled together with the fries and it was simply amazing. The meats hit the spot just right and the fries were excellently seasoned with a nice crunch!
A must to come back and enjoy this!

Stalactites is one of Melbourne’s must-try Greek restaurants, right in the heart of the city on Swanston Street. We gathered as a group for late dinner— the souvlaki and chips were the highlights! The meat was tender and full of flavour, and the chips were perfectly crispy and seasoned just right.
The staff were friendly and attentive, even though the place was quite busy. The service felt genuine and welcoming. The atmosphere is lively but still comfortable, with that classic Greek taverna feel.
What I love most is that it’s open late, perfect for a quick dinner after a night out or when you’re craving something satisfying in the city. It’s also family-friendly and ideal for groups or solo diners.
Highly recommend Stalactites for anyone looking for authentic Greek food in Melbourne CBD — great food, great people, and great vibes.
