When a customer buys a cake slice and it’s dropped into this boldly branded but not-very-functional bag, the buttercream smears everywhere. It sticks to the bag, to the tissue paper that was placed in rather carelessly, and the whole thing becomes a disappointment. This isn’t a one-off, it happens again and again. Please retire this bag. It’s too deep and simply not suitable for cake or soft tarts with cream. It’s passable for croissants, but still not ideal. Using this bag is an easy way to associate a bad experience with your Monforte Viennoiserie branding. As a customer, I hate receiving a cake slice that ends up looking like cat vomit in the bottom of this bag. At your price point, why not use a small box or proper container? Aside from this packaging issue, you make the best croissants in Melbourne and the cakes are excellent. Kudos to the chef. Atmosphere is not really applicable as it’s a street-side takeaway window. Staff are fine, not the warmest, but it’s likely the packaging choice isn’t up to them.

Monforte is a fantastic local viennoiserie in Carlton North. I tried the leatherwood honey and sea salt croissant - perfectly flaky, beautifully buttery, and the sweet–savory contrast was spot on. A real treat. Highly recommend stopping by, even if you're coming from another suburb. Worth the trip!

This lovely bakery, nestled in North Carlton, is a must-visit for pastry lovers, even if it’s a bit of a drive from the city. I visited on a Saturday, arriving 15 minutes after opening and waiting about 40 minutes in line. I tried the leatherwood honey and seasalt croissant and the seasonal radish white bean curry leaf. Both were delicious, and this croissant, without filling, is probably the best I’ve had in Melbourne. The bakery operates only four days a week, so make sure to plan your visit accordingly!

My friend and I wanted to get these croissants before meeting up with our friends. So we left early and got there and tried the chocolate croissant and mango croissant. They were to die for. It’s this small little bakery basically a hole in the wall selling delicious pastries. I would definetly come back again just to have the mango croissant.

Delicious!! Definitely rate this the Best in Melbourne! Loved Todays savoury one: Jerusalem artichoke, roasted onion and taleggios, the pastry was crunchy, flaky and buttery and the filling had so much flavour, Delicious! The sweetness of the sweet varieties were also perfect. Service was friendly and helpful when questioned about the pastries.
