We went in a group of 14 people. Chicken 65, goat Briyani, Halim and chicken Briyani was too good. One of the best I have had in Melbourne. Food was fresh and the rice was cooked well and was just perfect. The 14 of us agreed it’s the best.
Very humble and polite staff and we got the food on the table in less than 15 mins.

The worst experience ever at Deccan today. I was really excited to try the Mandi and ordered it, but to my surprise, they served me Tandoori chicken instead. The rice was even worse. When I mentioned this to the person at the reception, instead of acknowledging the issue, he started arguing that all Mandis are served with Tandoori chicken. Clearly, he had no knowledge of what an actual Mandi is.
I am originally from Hyderabad, where Mandi is very popular. I asked him to show me even one good Mandi restaurant in Hyderabad that serves it with Tandoori chicken — he couldn’t, and instead, he just kept arguing and finally said he didn’t care. That response itself shows the lack of customer respect and professionalism.
I only took one bite and left the food completely, but the receptionist still insisted that I must pay, saying they don’t care whether customers eat or not. To explain how ridiculous this treatment was — it’s like ordering an egg but being served chicken, and still being forced to pay for it no matter what.
It’s not even about the money. If he had simply accepted the mistake, I would have paid with a smile. But the way he treated me, combined with the quality of food and the complete lack of customer service, made the experience absolutely disgusting.

A very humble looking joint…but the food here was simply delicious. Arguably one of the best biryanis I have had so far. Chicken 65 while not made in my usually preferred dry style was also really good and flavourful that went particularly well with biryani. The tandoori chicken is also excellent.

Worst restaurant ever. Food was full of oil, totally unhygienic. Roti dripping like fried in oil, biryani tasteless, chicken 65 horrible. Staff was very rude, no basic manners, and not even wearing gloves — looks like no hygiene at all. After eating I got vomiting and motions. $70 wasted for nothing. Total scam. Never going again — avoid this place like hell.

Deccan DineInn in West Footscray left much to be desired during my recent visit. Unfortunately, the food quality was a major letdown. The dishes lacked freshness and flavor, with the biryani being particularly disappointing—overcooked rice and dry, tasteless chicken. The curries, which I had high hopes for, were bland and seemed hastily prepared, missing the authentic spices that South Indian cuisine is known for.
The dining room was another major concern. The tables and chairs were sticky, and the floor looked like it hadn’t been cleaned properly in a while. It was hard to enjoy a meal when the environment felt so unkempt. The toilets were in an even worse state. They were dirty, with overflowing trash bins and a general lack of hygiene, which was quite off-putting.
Given the abundance of quality South Indian restaurants in Melbourne, Deccan DineInn needs to make significant improvements in both their food and cleanliness standards. With better attention to these areas, it could potentially be a good dining option, but as it stands, I cannot recommend it based on my experience.
