During a recent visit to Woolworths South Yarra to shop for groceries, I was struck by the store’s impressive breadth of brands and product variety, which reflects Woolworths’ ongoing commitment to understanding and serving the diverse needs of local communities. Woolworths continually evolves its range to respond to changing customer preferences, including expanded multicultural and specialty offerings tailored to each store’s demographic profile.
What truly made my experience remarkable was finding a hard‑to‑locate product from my home country; an item I had assumed would be difficult, if not impossible, to source locally. Locating this product among the extensive international and specialty aisles not only fulfilled my immediate need but also highlighted how thoughtfully curated selections can resonate deeply with customers from diverse cultural backgrounds.
The store layout supported an efficient and enjoyable shopping journey, making it easy to explore fresh produce, household essentials and imported goods all in one place. Behind this experience was the quiet but important work of staff who ensure that such variety remains accessible and relevant to the local community’s tastes and traditions.
My visit to Woolworths South Yarra was a reminder that supermarkets today are about more than convenience; they are about connection; connecting people with the foods that nourish both body and memory, and doing so with breadth, care and insight.

The best supermarket in Melbourne, IMHO. It’s clean, spacious and well organised, the staff are super-friendly and the prices are very reasonable compared with our local independent. We absolutely love shopping there. Parking underneath is a bit painful, but it’s also free. Special mention to Sally in fruit and veg, who treats her customers like family.

This was the worst experience I’ve ever had in Melbourne. The staff had an unbelievably bad attitude and even yelled at customers. It was completely unacceptable. If someone doesn’t have the basic professionalism required for a customer-facing role, they simply shouldn’t be working in this industry. How does such a big company even select their staff during interviews? Absolutely disappointing.

Consistently an unpleasant experience so I’m finally pulling the trigger on a poor review. The staff are doing the best they can, certainly not on them but all the self checkouts were out tonight. No hot food including roast chickens from 7pm which has been a recurring issue. Do I need to book a week in advance?? Poorly stacked shelves and a constantly shifting store layout have made this a pass for me in future, especially during peak times.
